The contract enabling the accomplishment of project EPOS – European Plate Observing System was signed on December 30, 2019 (EPOS-PL+)

Work on the project is carried out by the Central Mining Institute in a consortium with the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet of the AGH University of Science and Technology, Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Polska Grupa Górnicza.
The capabilities of the EPOS-PL research infrastructure will be enhanced as part of the project. This will entail the establishment of the Research Infrastructure Centre for Satellite Data – CIBDS, a new testing ground in the form of the Geophysical Safety System for Mine Support Pillars, and an IT platform for artificial intelligence-assisted research (EPOS-AI), while the potential of the Research Infrastructure Centre for Analytical Laboratories will be significantly improved through the participation of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the remaining Research Infrastructure Centres will be enhanced as well.
The EPOS-PL research infrastructure is a multilayer, multidisciplinary and interoperable research infrastructure where data from dispersed measurement networks is collected and stored, and subsequently processed, standardised and integrated in the form of databases together with metadata, accessed by means of a website offering relevant analytical services/applications and dedicated visualisations.
Project EPOS-European Plate Observing System (EPOS-PL+) is but one element of a broader endeavour. The EPOS-PL research infrastructure established as part of the project is related to the European program for “solid” earth science research infrastructure development, and EPOS will constitute its integral part.
