EPOS research infrastructure is based on existing national research infrastructures, managed and financed by the national funds. EPOS vision is that national research infrastructures will be integrated in the preparatory phase and will create National Data Centers. These Centers will provide comprehensive and unified data from particular fields (e.g. seismological, geodetic, geological, etc.). Each National Center will have its own IT equipment. This will allow for the construction of efficient data storage and provide basic computing resources for analysis. Open research infrastructure of EPOS project will provide resources for the scientific community and industry. For the scientific community, access to a long-term observation of tectonic plates, data and modelling tools is an introduction to innovative research. For industry, it enables to use the resources, research results, integration of existing research infrastructure. The combination of experience and knowledge gives the opportunity to conduct research that allows for analysis of processes associated with activities of companies that have an impact of Earth’s crust and, consequently, to minimize hazard resulting from such activity.
Research conducted with the use of future research infrastructure EPOS-PL may be carried out within specific areas or multidisciplinary. Therefore, research using the RI of EPOS fit the broader context of international cooperation. It is worth noting that the program is supported by several global initiatives in the field of earth sciences, including: Global Earthquake Model (GEM), the European Space Agency (ESA) and EuroGeoSurvey.
